Abstract

The primary objective in this paper is to explore the role of sociometry in the explication of social structure. First we will attempt to describe social structure with a particular emphasis on the processes of its construction and reconstruction. This description will be heavily dependent on the structural- functional, symbolic interactionist and phenomenological modes of thought. We will then examine the specialized nature of sociometric data and the utility of such data with respect to the problem of delineating social structure.
