Abstract

Berkshire Industrial Farm is a residential treatment school for adolescent, delinquent boys ranging in age from 12 to 17 years. The institution, located in Canaan, New York, about 35 miles from Albany, is a private facility receiving boys from agencies and courts of various Northeastern states. A clinical program was instituted 4 years ago, with the premise that individual casework therapy would be extended to each boy. The population of Berkshire Farm is 145, with a treatment staff consisting of 6 caseworkers, a casework supervisor and a psychologist. Psychiatric consultation is available with a visiting psychiatrist who comes to the Farm once a week.
