Abstract

Statistically valid surveys in certain Michigan and Wisconsin cities have disclosed that 2 percent of the child population of school age are seriously disturbed emotionally to the extent of requiring treatment in a child guidance clinic or a residential treatment center and that an additional 17 percent of the children of school age in these cities are sufficiently disturbed to require individual study and appropriate ameliorative measures. Faced with a problem of this magnitude, it is a generally accepted feeling among child guidance clinics that they cannot meet the current need for their services. Consequently, concern has arisen on the part of both staff and community from the creation of waiting lists
