PsychotherapyAbstract
Why are there so many schools of psychotherapy? Why do methods vary so much? How do people come to select particular procedures for their own therapy or as their method of practice? How is it that intelligent and sincere people exposed to various theories and procedures reject some and accept others? What are the basic determiners of choice in this area? Without doubt, proponents of various systems would give ''intellectual" answers: would attempt to show the validity of their theoretical constructs, the logic of intervening variables; point out clinical successes; and may even attempt, when pertinent, to present nomothetic evidence based on approved hypothetico-deductive investigations using objective criteria.
