To the physician multiple sclerosis presents a discouraging combination of circumstances-a tragic downhill course in a young person, coupled with the absence of a specific form of treatment capable of permanently affecting the course of the disease. Physical therapy and psychotherapy are generally accepted as effective forms of therapy in managing the patients' emotional and organic problems.
