From Control to Collaboration: A Psychodrama Informed Executive Coaching Case Study

This case study explores the integration of psychodrama techniques within executive coaching to foster behavioral and emotional transformation in leaders. The writer coached a CXO client over six one-and-half-hour sessions spanning six months, aiming to enhance emotion regulation and relational intelligence amid high organizational pressure. Psychodrama-informed methods–such as role reversal, role interview, and enactment–enabled the client to externalize ingrained coping roles and gain new perspectives, shifting from control-driven to collaborative leadership. Consciously structured integration phases between sessions bridged action and reflection, translating experiential insight into sustained behavioral change. Grounded in Moreno’s role theory and aligned with the International Coaching Federation’s competencies, this case illustrates how psychodrama fosters spontaneity, emotional literacy in action, and integrative leadership development. It offers a compelling model for deepening executive coaching through embodied, reflective, and systemic approaches.
