J. L. MORENO, M.D. founded the first professional society in the field, the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama,
in 1941. The Society held its first annual meeting in 1942 at the Sociometric Institute, New Yark City, and published its first bulletin,
PSYCHODRAMA AND GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY in 1943. For half a century, Dr. Moreno has been a pioneer in the field of Human Relations. Many of the terms and techniques which are in common use today were originated by him such as, Encounter and Encounter Group (1914), Theatre of Spontaneity and Psychodrama (1923), Acting Out (1929), Group Therapy (1932), and Group Psychotherapy (1932).
